Celta’s qualification chances diminished in the first half after Messi scored two goals in two minutes, a strong blow to the team’s hopes. Then two other goals, also in two minutes, sentenced the round and placed FC Barcelona in the next round of Copa del Rey, the final 8.
After 11 minutes of play Hugo Mallo made a good move and crossed the ball for Wass that finally wasn’t able to strike it in the goal area. One minute later Messi kicked the ball to the back of the net after a cross pass from the left. The Argentinian scored again two minutes later after an assist by Jordi Alba. Celta lost the qualification round in two minutes.
At around the 30 minute mark, Messi crossed a great ball for Jordi Alba to score form the left the 3-0. The thrashing , with a very demoralized Celta, cdidn’t stop. At the 30 minute mark, a Celta turnover was capitalized by Suárez to score.
After halftime, the match slowed down and was more equal, and both teams had good scoring opportunities. Celta made two substitutions and faced the rest of the match with renewed energy. The local team nevertheless scored the fifth goal in the final minutes of play after a header by Rakitic. Celta said farewell sadly to its Copa hopes.
