Celta was defeated tonight in Balaidos against Athletic Club de Bilbao. The skyblue team went onto the pitch trying to keep the ball, and even had a good chance of getting on the scoreboard first through Bongonda. However, the counter-strikes on behalf of Athletic forced Sergio to intervene on two occasions. The first goal came on a corner-kick which was pushed into the net by Raul Garcia.
In the second half, Athletic took control of ball possession and had the best chances to score in the match. On the 49th minute of play, again Raul Garcia scored the second goal for the basque team. Celta seeked unsuccessfully Kepa’s goal. As a result of one of many counter-attacks driven by Iñigo Lekue and culminated by Mikel Rico, Athletic finished off the match with a third goal.
The skyblue squad finishes day 35 of LaLiga with 44 points and in 11th place, still having to play the the postponed match against Real Madrid.
