Marco Garcés arrives in Vigo after developing his career at Liverpool FC, Manchester United, Pachuca FC, and LAFC. He has led winning projects that have achieved league and international titles.
RC Celta begins to take the first steps in the restructuring of its sports area, one of the cornerstones of the project led by President Marián Mouriño, which seeks to focus the club’s efforts on football and improving its sports competitiveness.
Marco Garcés joins RC Celta to become the new Director of Football of the Celeste entity. A professional with proven experience, he joins with the mission of developing a football project based on boosting the competitive performance of the first team and supported by the youth academy, with the idea of promoting the development of young talents up to the first Celeste team.
The sports area led by the new Director of Football will have its own structure for national and international talent scouting that will reinforce the existing one, as well as a multidisciplinary staff that will enhance the performance and competitiveness of players in all categories of RC Celta.
Marco Garcés (Mexico City, 1972) represents the third generation of players in his family, as his father and grandfather were successful footballers in Mexico and, like Garcés himself, reached the national team. As a player, the new Director of Football of RC Celta won four league titles in his country.
He has extensive training in various disciplines related to football. After extensive experience working in Liverpool’s youth academy and in talent development and scouting for Manchester United, Garcés signed as Sports Director of Club de Fútbol Pachuca.
His trajectory with the “Tuzos” was especially marked by success. With Garcés at the helm of the sports department, the Mexican club lifted a league title, a CONCACAF, and reached third place in the Club World Cup. In addition, Pachuca became a true benchmark for youth academies in the country.
For the last two seasons, he has served as Director of Football Operations at Los Angeles FC in MLS. With the American team, he has again triumphed by finishing as Conference champion for two consecutive years and winning a Supporters Shield and an MLS Cup, in addition to achieving a runner-up position in the 2023 Concacaf.
Marco Garcés emphasizes that mentality, confidence, and ambition are fundamental: “We have to believe that it is possible, have the audacity of hope. The young players from the academy have to believe that they can reach the first team and the first team that their place is the elite. No one should ever give up.”
