It took some time, but it finally happened. Celta guaranteed its pass to the round of 16 in Copa del Rey after Iago Aspas scored a penalty-kick at the 90 minute mark. Until then Balaídos witnessed a tedious match with barely any scoring chances, and in which Éibar set control of the tempo without challenging Sergio much. Celta’s goalkeeper made good stops when needed and effectively blocked Eibar’s best scoring chances.
The starting line-up was full of new faces: Brais Méndez, Emre Mor, Hjulsager or Guidetti were some of those chosen by Unzué to start the match off. After the favorable 1-2 score in the first leg match, the sky-blues approached the second leg match with the aim to score a goal and make the comeback an uphill battle for Éibar to comeback. Without hardly any chance, the game was scoreless until Dmitrovic, just before the final whistle, tackled Iago Aspas in the Eibar penalty and the referee signaled the foul. Celta will get to know it next rival this Friday in the RFEF Copa draw held at Las Rozas, Madrid.
